Dorcas Maphakela

Dorcas Maphakela is a TV Presenter, Speaker and award-winning Founder & Producer of OZ AFRICAN TV (OATV); a digital platform that celebrates people of African diaspora in Australia. At the 2019 C31’s Antenna Awards, OATV won an award for Outstanding Contribution to the Community by a Program.

Dorcas also works full time at AIME Mentoring as Program Manager leading the African Australian Stream. Here she works with high school students of African and Indigenous descent, university students and community mentors to help bridge the gap of inequality through education.

Her Media award from the Victorian Multicultural Commission acknowledges “outstanding reporting on issues of importance to diverse communities and reporting which contributes to Victoria’s cross cultural understanding” (VMC).

Dorcas studied Fine Arts at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa and holds Master of Arts (Writing) from Swinburne University, Australia.

Dorcas was born in South African and has called Australia home for more than 13 years.
