Emiliano currently manages the Transcultural & Language Services (TALS) and Aboriginal Support Unit (ASU) departments at Northern Health; he has extensive experience developing and implementing a diverse range of award winning services in the health context. Emiliano is responsible for over 40 staff members across five campuses of Northern Health, and his organisation’s Cultural Responsiveness and Reconciliation Action plans, as well as participating in the development of his organisation’s Disability Action Plan.
Emiliano has 10 years’ experience as a university lecturer, and holds the position of Adjunct Industry Fellow in Translation & Interpreting Studies in the School of Languages, Literature, Cultures & Linguistics at Monash University. His current research focuses on cultural competence in the health context, and specifically on the impact cultural competence has on the health outcomes of patients with low English proficiency.
Emiliano has also contributed to a number of successful externally funded projects in collaboration with Donate Life, the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI), and the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM). He has been a member of the Polaron Advisory Board since its establishment.”
